Cameron Carter-Vickers told American TV channel CBS Sports his knee is “as good as it can be” after surgery before lauding Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.
Carter-Vickers was taking part in a live link-up with goalkeeper Joe Hart ahead of this weekend’s match against Rangers, delving into a whole host of topics including playing at the World Cup and the experience of playing in a derby.
The defender has been a big miss since his season ended in the wake of the Scottish Cup semi-final win over Rangers, especially today at Ibrox. He’s been a massive leader in that defence and the hope is he’ll be back up to fitness in time for the new season.
Carter-Vickers loves working under Postecoglou at Celtic
He’s refusing to put a definitive timeline on recovery at this stage but did offer a positive update, telling CBS Sports: “The knee is as good as it can be, I got surgery last week. I’m just rehabbing from that and it’s still early days so it’s hard to put a timeline on it at the moment. But I’m positive about it and I’m sure I’ll be back as soon as possible.”
Carter-Vickers was then asked about working with Ange Postecoglou, to which he said: “For me, he’s one of the best managers I’ve worked with. Just his attention to detail and his drive to always want to improve. We have a fairly young group here and the lessons he teaches us not just on the pitch but also off it really help us and stick with us.
“He’s always looking for improvement. We can win a game three or four nil and be pointing out ways we can improve. With a young group, that’s what you want.”
The 25-year-old sounds very happy to be playing in Glasgow and long may it continue. Now heading into his third season in a Celtic shirt, he’ll again be key to our quest for more trophies and making a push into the UEFA Champions League.
He should enjoy this period of rest, too. Knowing Postecoglou, Carter-Vickers will be selected for the vast majority of our matches next term and this time out should be seen as an opportunity for a serious recharge, mentally and physically.
