Cameron Carter-Vickers saved the day for Celtic against Aberdeen with a miraculous block to deny Ester Sokler an equaliser for the hosts.

Starting alongside Auston Trusty, the 26-year-old helped to record another shutout as the Bhoys took three significant points at the Dons to move seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Gail force wind and rain hit the North East, which duly affected the pattern of a tight contest at Pittodrie. However, Reo Hatate’s moment of magic for Celtic was worth the entrance fee after the Japanese midfielder pounced on an excellent through ball from Greg Taylor.

Despite the Hoops’ decisive moment in the final third, defences were on top for much of the affair. If you can’t tell, Cameron Carter-Vickers performed outstandingly against Aberdeen and helped to run a tight ship at the back.

Following a colossal performance, the United States international has opened up on his match-winning block that ensured three points travelled back with Celtic to Glasgow.

Speaking live on Sky Sports, Celtic star Carter-Vickers admitted that the team’s excellent display came before his own personal contribution to a momentous night at Pittodrie.

He explained: “Going out there to warm up it was freezing so we expected that type of difficult game. We knew we could compete in that type of game and we showed it.

“It was a big block (from Aberdeen’s late opportunity), but I think we showed as a team we could dig in, fight for the ball and put in challenges when we need to.

“You want to put the ball in the net in one end and keep it out the other. We showed fight the whole game and that helped us in the end.”

Celtic now in an excellent Scottish Premiership position

Leading by seven points, Celtic also hold a game in hand over Aberdeen that could bolster their advantage later down the line if current form sticks.

Next up, the Bhoys face Hibernian at Parkhead on Saturday, knowing that a victory will add further gravitas to Brendan Rodgers claiming another title north of the border.
