Celtic are in Champions League action tonight against Club Brugge and Cameron Carter-Vickers will be needed to steer his side to a defensively sound performance against the Belgian Pro League holders.

It hasn’t been lost on the public that the United States international has missed some recent high-profile encounters due to injury, which can sometimes lead to the Bhoys suffering as a result.

Nevertheless, John Hartson thinks Cameron Carter-Vickers is ‘massive’ for Celtic and the Welshman’s claims won’t fall on deaf ears, seeing as the reigning Scottish Premiership champions haven’t lost once since his return against Dundee last month.

Aside from his contribution, credit also has to go to Auston Trusty and Liam Scales for holding the fort, while the former has recently former a handy partnership with his American counterpart.

With Celtic set for another exhilarating Champions League affair against Club Brugge, Carter-Vickers has identified why his compatriot has been able to settle in almost seamlessly.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is loving Auston Trusty at Celtic

Speaking yesterday before the Bhoys take on Club Brugge, Carter-Vickers made it clear that Trusty’s powerful attributes have contributed to his ‘fantastic’ start at the heart of the Celtic backline.

He explained: “It’s been good (playing alongside Trusty), I think he’s come in and started fantastic. You can definitely see the attributes that he has and what he brings to the team and so far, I’ve enjoyed it.”

When asked how he compares to someone like Carl Starfelt, Carter-Vickers continued: “Not really defensively, to be honest, it’s probably slight tweaks.

“It’s different, whether if you’re a left-footed or right-footed player playing on whatever side you’re playing on.

“It’s just different angles on the ball, but defensively, I wouldn’t say there’s much difference.”

Celtic need their defensive core to stand up vs Club Brugge

Arriving in goalscoring form, Club Brugge defeated Sint-Truidense 7-0 last weekend and winger Christos Tzolis scored four on a day of devastation, marking him as one to watch this evening.

Either way, Celtic won’t have come into this expecting a straightforward clash. Every game at the top level is a difficult challenge, you need to embrace it rather than approaching proceedings with fear.

Hopefully, Brendan Rodgers can send his side out to take a hold of the narrative tonight as they look to make more history in front of a capacity home crowd!
