The knee surgery Cameron Carter-Vickers went through this week has been successful and Ange Postecoglou is expecting him back in action before the start of the new season.

Carter-Vickers has been playing through the pain barrier in recent weeks with all parties aware he needed to go under the knife to clear up an underlying issue in his knee.

Postecoglou has shared he actually wanted the player to undergo the procedure earlier but that the defender insisted he at least played up to and including the Scottish Cup semi-final against Rangers.

Celtic star Carter-Vickers now on the mend

Discussing the defender, the Celtic boss said this weekend [Scottish Daily Mail, 06/05 print edition page 117]: “With Cameron, it was a case of how early he had the surgery. He has already had the surgery, and it all went well. The earlier he had it the better chance he had of being ready for the start of next season.

“But, at the same time, he was really keen to be involved up until last weekend with such a big game, and in terms of what it meant for our season as a semi-final.

“I was really guided by him in the end, he was the one to tell us when the right time was. But he was never going to go beyond last weekend because I want to make sure he is right for the start of the season. So, for us, it is a good outcome.”

It’s great to hear that the USA international was desperate to down Rangers before undergoing his procedure. It shows his motivation levels are right where we want and need them to be. He’s a player who leads by example in that dressing room and the players will know what he’s been going through.

He’ll now get some well-earned rest before a busy season three at Celtic, where he’s expected to once again be a key part of the team that goes up against the best in the UEFA Champions League. It’s vital that all his medical issues are done by them and thankfully the club have acted in time to sort him out.
