Brendan Rodgers can take an early lead over Rangers in the Scottish Premiership with a home win after the Ibrox club’s draw with Motherwell at Fir Park yesterday.
Russell Martin is starting to find out about the harsh reality of being the Rangers boss after dropping points in the first fixture in his bid to catch Celtic this season.
And as the dust settles on Rangers’ draw with Motherwell, BBC pundit and former Ibrox player Cammy Bell seemed to come across a little bit bitter after being asked a ‘silly question’ about Celtic by talkSPORT’s Natalie Sawyer this morning.
Cammy Bell gets negative after being asked if it’s ‘all eyes on Celtic’ for the title
talkSPORT host Natalie Sawyer was interviewing Cammy Bell about Rangers’ draw with Motherwell when she asked Bell, “Let’s talk about Celtic shall we, because they’re in action today as they take on St Mirren in their opening Premiership game.
“When you look at Celtic and the business that they’ve done perhaps this summer, I mean, it’s a bit of a silly question, really, but is it all eyes on them to win the title again?”
Bell replied, “Yeah, all eyes are on them but I wouldn’t say everything’s rosy at Celtic as well.
“Brendan Rodgers done his press conference on Friday, and again, he had a little dig at the board for not spending enough money.
“They’ve lost Nicolas Kuhn, who was a big player, he’s moved on during the summer. So again, he’s a little bit frustrated. I can see frustration setting in on him.”
Cammy Bell finally admits Celtic will be ‘domestically dominant’
So after focusing on the negative about Celtic, Bell finally got to the truth and answered Sawyer’s question. Eventually.
Bell continued, “And it’s probably nothing really to do with the domestic side of football, because I think Celtic navigate their way through that perfectly well.
“And I expect them to do that again this year, just purely where Rangers are. I think it’s going to take Rangers that transitional year to get up to speed with Celtic, so I expect them to be domestically dominant.
“But again, he’s looking at trying to progress in the Champions League. He knows how important the Champions League is to him and Celtic as a football club, so I think there’s a little bit of frustration there between him and the board and not getting the players that he identified and wanted in the club.”
Look, there is no denying that Rodgers is unhappy at the business that Celtic have done this summer but Bell’s tactic of talking up all the negativity surrounding the Parkhead club before finally answering the question will not be lost on Celtic fans.
Reality bites Rangers boss Russell Martin hard, Celtic must take advantage vs St Mirren
The reality of becoming the Rangers boss has hit hard with Russell Martin this weekend as he gets the first taste of what it’s like to drop points in the Ibrox hotseat.
Celtic must now take advantage of that not only on the park, but off it as well.
Three points against St Mirren will pile even more pressure on Martin if Celtic can gain a two-point advantage at the top of the league.
And if Rodgers can strengthen the Celtic first-team the way he wants this summer, even more pressure will be added to the Rangers boss.
This is an opportunity the Parkhead club cannot allow to slip past.
