Can Celtic afford to wait around on Tom Rogic any longer?

It seems like Tom Rogic is once again a doubt for a crucial Celtic match.

Neil Lennon made an interesting comment on the Australian when speaking to press ahead of the Europa League clash against Cluj on Thursday. Lennon simply said “we’re waiting to see how Tom is” with regards to his availability for the game against the Romanians.

Injury updates are nothing out of the ordinary. What is unusual about this is that there was no real indication that Rogic was even injured in the first place.

The 26-year-old was last seen playing the full-match, and netting, as we saw off Partick Thistle 5-0 in the Betfred Cup. He was then included in the matchday squad for the trip to Hibernian but didn’t make it off the bench at any point.

So the fact that he is now once again struggling to be fit for a big match must be a real frustration for Lennon and his backroom team.

Celtic may be considering their options with Rogic

The ‘Invincible’ hero will be excused from international duty later this month to go and get married. While not playing those extra dreaded minutes may be good for his fitness, it’s also a real concern that he can’t seem to get up to speed at all.

Rogic has made just three appearances, and one start, so far this season. He’s looked very slow and off the pace when he has played. His game isn’t exactly built around speed and agility, but even by those standards he’s not looked fit.

Celtic must now be wondering if the attacker is ever going to get back to the form of a couple of seasons ago. Rogic was one of our most reliable players not so long ago. Now he is perhaps the most unreliable in the entire squad.

The fact he could soon miss another big game so soon after coming back is surely inexcusable. It’s not as if he’s deliberately getting injured but it’s still badly affecting the team. It makes you wonder if we missed our chance to sell him while he was hot.
