It’s clear the Celtic fans know exactly where the finger of blame should be pointed regarding the Jeremie Frimpong situation.
Neil Lennon today admitted the club had accepted an offer for the player. He also said that the Dutchman had wanted to leave Celtic for the past “six or seven” weeks [Sky Sports].
The Daily Record has reported that it’s Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen who are in for Frimpong. They claim that the right-back is set to bag Celtic a deal well in excess of £10million.

All of this has come totally out of the blue for Celtic fans today. Especially considering the player himself dismissed any speculation regarding his long-term future before the new year on Celtic TV.
The Scottish Sun revealed back in December that Frimpong had held talks over a new deal with the club. That was something Lennon confirmed today too – that there had indeed been contract talks.
Celtic fans not surprised to see Frimpong head off
But it’s all come in the most disastrous season in Celtic’s history since 2009/10. At least back then we actually sacked Tony Mowbray when things had gone too far. This year we’ve just allowed things to run away from us.

Join the forum now >>For supporters, it’s no surprise to see Frimpong want to leave. His manager’s long-term future looks set to be away from Parkhead. He’s part of a disastrous side that looks so far behind Rangers it should be ashamed of itself. And he’s failing to develop at the rate he should be.
Frimpong’s end product still leaves a lot to be desired. It’s been that way since he signed from Man City in the summer of 2019. In 30 appearances this year, he’s only managed five assists [Transfermarkt].
We needed more than that from Jeremie this year and we didn’t get it. Instead, we’ve got a player who’s so fed up of life in Glasgow that he appears insistent on a move elsewhere.
And it’s fair to say many supporters are blaming the toxic environment at Celtic for Frimpong’s quick departure. Here’s a look at some of the fan reaction to today’s update:
Frimpong could’ve been a great right back for us under a decent coach. No coincidence a lot of young players leaving Celtic in the last year

According to Lennon, Frimpong has wanted to leave for a while. If that’s the case then why are we scrambling to sign a right back on loan?
We are incredibly unprepared and poorly ran. The level of incompetence within the club is crazy. Major clear out needed.

Don't blame Jeremie Frimpong for wanting to leave Celtic or any other player for that matter, if he wants to progress his career he needs to get out of the way of our current management team.

So far today Celtic have said:
Frimpong is away.
Dembelé is going.
Several others have expressed an interest to move on.It's just went 1406.

Wish Frimpong all the best, if he goes. Some rebuilding job going on in the next few months.

Frimpong under a decent manager will develop into a brilliant player, he’s still young and I think a lot of our fans forgot that.
— Conor (@ConorM67_) January 26, 2021
We have been talking about this rebuild we have, players leaving etc and Frimpong wasn’t even included in that
Such a massive job on our hands. Realistically you would think it would be smart to start doing so now?
— Lewis 🍋 (@LewisLaird01) January 26, 2021
Make no mistake about it Frimpong could have been a top player for us. A top talent , poorly coached , being let go too soon 🤷♂️.

Frimpong is another player who’s progression has halted if not went backwards under lennon. not surprised one bit he wants away along with many others. they don’t want to play for Lennon thats clear as day.

If frimpong said he wanted to leave Celtic fc them & glad he’s going. No point keeping players who don’t want to stay. Hopefully all the others who want away we also let them go aswell & a big rebuild 🍀
