Rubin Kazan and Sweden international Carl Starfelt has dropped a huge Celtic hint on Instagram.

The defender, Kazan’s most-used man in the 20-21 season [WhoScored?], has been heavily linked with a move to the Bhoys [Anel Advic]. With Celtic desperately needing improvements in the middle of defence, Starfelt couldn’t arrive in time for tonight’s meeting with FC Midtjylland.

As such, Nir Bitton played, and was sent off for two soft yellows. The situation could be better soon though, with Sweden international Carl Starfelt looking close to signing for Celtic.

On his Instagram page, the defender shared a story with him taking in the Celtic display tonight.

Enjoying a steak, the Swede clearly enjoyed the finer things this evening ahead of a potential transfer to the Bhoys. With a solid reading of the game, Starfelt averaged 1.1 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 3.9 clearances across 29 league appearances [WhoScored?].

It appears that Instagram is a player’s easiest way of sparking speculation. Kristijan Lovric sparked speculation by following the club on Instagram earlier this week.

Bhoys need Sweden international Starfelt at Celtic before league start

While Dane Murray and Stephen Welsh kept Midtjylland quiet in open play, it’s clear Celtic needed centre-backs yesterday.

With Kristoffer Ajer set to leave, we already needed cover in his position. Now, if anything, it ought to be Starfelt plus one or two, if Celtic have aims of winning the title this season.

With three caps for Sweden, Starfelt represents quality and experience for Celtic. And it’s clear that experience is needed, with long-standing defensive deficiencies undoing the Bhoys on the big stage. Tonight, it was another set-piece.

There’s hope the solid, reliable Starfelt can make a difference in that key area. According to Swedish reporter Anel Advic, he’s not old-school, though; Starfelt is capable playing with the ball at his feet, and has impressive passing statistics.

Let’s hope this Instagram story means he’s learning for an imminent move. It’d be about time.
