Carl Starfelt hasn’t had the easiest of times in La Liga since he decided to leave Celtic last summer for Celtic Vigo.
The former Celtic defender left Glasgow for the sunshine of Vigo after being made a good offer by the Spanish side.
However, the big Swede has found life amongst the elite players of Spain tough as he battled relegation for much of last season.
And after dropping out of Celtic Vigo’s starting lineup and onto the bench after the sacking of Rafa Benitez, Starfelt’s future at the club looked precarious under new boss, Claudio Giráldez.
This morning, it seems those fears are now being realised after the latest update from transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.
Fabrizio Romano: ‘Several clubs enquire’ about Starfelt
The Sweden international was rumoured to be put up for sale this summer but since those whispers first came to light, there has been nothing said about it until now.
Romano took to social media channel X to share an update on Starfelt and it seems his days at Celtic Vigo could be up.
Despite Celta Vigo’s poor form, Starfelt found himself to be an integral part of their starting lineup at the beginning of last season.
In 15 starts, Starfelt only tasted victory once against Almeria in a 3-2 away win in September. A torn thigh muscle kept the Swede out of the team for a few weeks but it wasn’t until March the former Celtic defender enjoyed another La Liga victory.
Ironically, it was against Almeria again as Starfelt captained Vigo in the home win. Unfortunately, they were dragged into a relegation battle until the Spanish side decided to part ways with Benitez.
Starfelt”s return to the starting lineup in May helped Vigo record three wins out of four as they dodged the drop but it seems that despite that, the 29-year-old could very well see himself ply his trade elsewhere as Giraldez looks to avoid a repeat of last season’s form by freshening up his squad.
