The Scottish Sun is reporting that Carlos Carvalhal is interested in becoming Celtic’s next manager. They have revealed that his representatives have contacted the club about the job.

It’s not surprise that he wants the Celtic’s manager’s job. He is currently out of work, and it is one of the most attractive managerial vacancies around at the moment.

However, the chances of Celtic appointing Carvalhal as manager would have to be slim to none.

Not as big a name as previous manager

With the greatest respect in the world to Carvalhal, fans would see his appointment as a step-down from previous manager Brendan Rodgers.

It is also worth taking into account Carvalhal’s last managerial job. Carvalhal wasn’t able to prevent Swansea from being relegated from the Premier League.

Celtic have appointed a manager in the past whose last job was with a team relegated from the Premier League. That manager was Tony Mowbray, and he lasted less than a year at Celtic Park.

Taking charge of a team with a chance to play in the Champions League will be an attractive proposition, especially to those managers out of work.

You would imagine that the Hoops will be looking for a high-profile replacement for Brendan Rodgers. At the moment, Carvalahl just doesn’t fit the bill.
