Former Celtic five-in-a-row winner Charlie Mulgrew is officially back playing in Scotland with Dundee Utd.
The Tannadice club today announced the signing of the ex-Parkhead defender, who had previouslty been playing in England for the last five years.
Mulgrew has penned a two-year contract in Tayside. He rejoins the club where he enjoyed a productive loan spell back in 2006 during his early days at Celtic.
The centre-back would go on to become a hero at Parkhead during his second spell after re-signing for the club in 2010. Mulgrew would make 208 appearances for the Hoops and won eight trophies.
He’s scheduled to meet up with the media and his teammates later this week [Dundee United Website].
Celtic fans remember Charlie Mulgrew fondly; Dundee Utd still have a player on their hands
Mulgrew was a superb utility man for the Hoops in Neil Lennon’s first spell in charge. Starting off at Parkhead as a left-back, a stunning performance at centre-back at Ibrox in 2011 saw him move more regularly into a central position.
He’s primarily operated as a centre-back during his recent spells with Blackburn Rovers and Fleetwood Town. And it looks as though he’ll be utilised in that position for Utd this season.
And he’s anything but done either. Last term, Mulgrew made 22 appearances for Fleetwood in League One [Transfermarkt]. He’s got more than enough ability to make a solid impact in the Premiership.

Mulgrew’s first meeting with Celtic will come at Parkhead when he returns to Parkhead on September 25th. They’ll then meet again at Tannadice on December 4th.
The defender always proved himself to be a thorn in Celtic’s side before he signed in 2010. During his Aberdeen days, he would regularly pop up with goals and assists against us. Don’t be surprised if he proves to be a similar threat this season.
But it’s great to see Charlie back in the Premeirship. Here’s hoping it proves to be a happy return for him.
In other news, the Rangers fans haven’t taken long to kickstart their Celtic conspiracies for the new season.
