Celtic have been linked with a loan move for £15m winger Oliver Burke from West Brom.

The Scottish international has only featured in three league games for the Baggies this season.

Signed from RB Leipzig last year for £15m, the wonderkid’s career has stuttered since moving back to England.

Celtic have been rumoured to be monitoring his situation. They are reportedly ready to pounce if the Championship side let him leave on loan.

While his addition to the squad may be a welcome one, it is not a position Celtic should be prioritising before the transfer window opens.

Celtic have an abundance of wingers at their disposal. So much so, they’ve reverted to playing one up front at times.

Scott Sinclair, James Forrest, Mikey Johnston and Lewis Morgan are vying for the starting roles on the flanks.

Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor have also featured in wide positions. Jonny Hayes is also in there too.

Burke certainly has a lot of talent. You don’t rack up nearly £30m in transfer fees before you’re 21 if you don’t have it.

The winger has broken the record for most expensive Scottish player twice in his young career.

However, Celtic need to be pulling their resources together and going after a right-back and a striker first.

Of course, they may well be doing that. At the moment, everything is just speculation. The transfer window hasn’t even opened yet.

Make or break window

Celtic have to get it right in January, there can be no excuses this time. They know where they need to strengthen and the amount of money it will cost to do so.

The team showed on Saturday that it is crying out for reinforcements. Celtic can’t afford to let this current squad limp on until the end of the season.

Burke may be an exciting prospect, but if he is to be Celtic’s only arrival, a lot of fans won’t be happy.
