Ange Postecoglou has reiterated his desire for Celtic to become a regular participant in the Champions League, and given some fresh insight on how he plans to achieve the goal.

Celtic’s manager was present at today’s AGM, and took a question from a supporter wondering how Celtic take the next step in Europe.

As per the Scottish Sun’s live blog (12:37), Postecoglou said: “We’ve got to be going in step. No point me having a vision and out of step with the business perspective. We try to fit the business model around that.

“We have to understand to be a Champions League club – the ones we can compare ourselves with – the ones who make an impact is they are constantly there.

“Then once there look to continually grow in the football aspect within resources and finances.

“We need to be aggressive in our approach but within the financial constraints of a club like ours.

“Aggressive in the transfer market – it could be unsettling with players in and out quickly but if you look at the models of clubs our size they’re very agile.

“Every couple of years they regenerate and move players out at the right time with improved players in.

“We need to push aggressively over the next two to three years, first qualifying and then making an impact.”

Postecoglou has been consistent with his messaging around improvement at European football’s top level.

He is adamant that the first step is qualifying every year. Celtic can qualify for next year’s competition by winning the Premiership title this season.

His comments on our long-term transfer window approach hint at exciting times for supporters. Postecoglou isn’t going to stand still with this squad.

Players who have been good servants are likely be replaced if Celtic’s boss can upgrade on them. It’s a cut-throat business but Postecoglou has the bit between his teeth.

This year’s Champions League was a sobering affair at times, but there were also plenty of positives with Celtic creating multiple chances in every single match.

With Postecoglou targeting more of an impact should we qualify for next season’s Champions League, and plenty more transfer business in the intervening period, exciting times are ahead.
