Celtic among UEFA elite as club cash sees Hoops ranked in top 10 for one particular element

Celtic have been ranked among Europe’s elite where finances are concerned.

A UEFA report was released this week with significant news regarding Celtic’s pre-tax profits and where they sit alongside the rest of the continent.

The European Club Finance and Investment Landscape Report, published on Thursday, has been dubbed the “ultimate guide to the European football finances” by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and the Hoops feature heavily.

GRV Media’s finance expert Adam Williams this week suggested Celtic’s revenue could reach £150million this season and that appears to be in line with UEFA’s reports putting the Scottish giants in the top 10 for largest pre-tax profits recorded in 2024.

Celtic recorded a pre-tax profit of £17.6m for 2024. That represents a drop from the figure noted in 2023 of £39.3m but they still find themselves seventh on the list beside last term’s Europa League winners Atalanta.

Bayern Munich lead the list but Celtic’s appearance shows growth at the club off the field.

Celtic are ranked seventh in Europe for pre-tax profits

It is likely the club’s incredible player trading model – and recent success from that – has played a major role in the finances sitting as they are.

Matt O’Riley was sold for £30m to Brighton while Jota, currently back at the club, cost Al-Ittihad £25m when they signed the Portuguese winger.

Champions League progress can also likely be considered a factor with prize money being taken into account. Two back-to-back seasons of participation is also a benefit.

As well as the top 10 list for pre-tax profit, Celtic also sit in the top 20 clubs around Europe for kit and merchandising sales in 2024.

Celtic fans clearly cannot get enough of their club’s merch as revenue of £29.3m was recorded in that department. The start of their five year deal with Adidas as manufacturer will help that and there was an £11.7m jump in that revenue over the course of the last 10 years.

Celtic sat 17th in merchandising with Real Madrid dwarfing every other club’s numbers with their own at £164m.

What finance expert has said about Celtic £150m revenue chance

Finance expert Adam Williams recently described Celtic as “ridiculously good at making money” and this UEFA report seems to agree.

Williams said: “Revenue for the first six months was slightly down based on the same period last year, but it looks like some of the Champions League income has been deferred and will be banked in the second half of the year.

“There is a chance they could break the £150m barrier in terms of revenue this season. If they had been able to make it through to the round of 16 in the Champions League, I think the £150m landmark would have been virtually guaranteed.

“But even without that I’d give them decent odds.”
