Let them eat chocolate: Celtic and Cadbury launch new chocolate bar amidst crisis

Timing is everything. The Bhoys, of all clubs, should be aware of that. Yet, Celtic are teaming up with Cadbury to launch a chocolate bar.

Yes; as chaos reigns around Celtic Park, at least staff and fans will have something sweet to celebrate.

A special 1967-themed bar (because, of course) was announced recently on Celtic’s twitter page, in an act of Public Relations so frighteningly off-the-mark, it would give Marie Antoinette pause for thought.

Cadbury and Celtic teamed up earlier in the year (Celtic FC), so it’s no surprise to see this collaboration bear further fruit (and nut). However, there is no correlation between the Lisbon Lions and chocolate, as far as we can tell.

It’s just another excruciating announcement from the Bhoys. It comes at a time when the club have alienated the support to an extent not seen since perhaps the early 90s.

An exciting seven days for Celtic fans is about to get underway

That said, there is something good here; proceeds from the sales of the chocolate bar will go towards Celtic’s Football for Good Fund. The club announced:

“Cadbury has exclusively created 1,967 limited edition Celtic FC Cadbury Dairy Milk bars, recognising the greatest achievement of them all – the 1967 European Cup win in Lisbon.

“All funds raised through the sale of these exclusive 110g bars, priced £5 each, will be donated to Celtic FC Foundation’s Football for Good Fund (FFGF), set up in March 2020 in response to the global pandemic.

“The Fund provides vital support in the form of food and essentials to thousands of vulnerable families, children, individuals, pensioners, refugees and those who are homeless or living in refuge, including an additional ongoing focus on supporting mental health.”

Hmm. £5 chocolate. We’re sure the fans responded well to this latest announcement from the club, with many suggesting their wallets are out already.

Celtic fans respond to Cadbury collaboration

Just kidding, it went about as badly as you’d expect.

Celtic fans are, clearly, not in the mood for chocolate:

Just a normal Friday afternoon at Celtic, then.
