Celtic goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi has represented England at youth international for years, but he thinks Karamoko Dembele is as good as anyone he’s seen.

Having played for England across youth levels, he’s seen some star names come and go. But he thinks Karamoko Dembele is as good as any he’s watched and played alongside. Praise indeed, considering the talent that’s come through the English FA’s national set-up.

Specifically, Oluwayemi referred to Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund, and Jamal Musiala. The latter, now a Germany international, played alongside Oluwayemi at youth level with England, and is now a rising star of the Bundesliga.

Oluwayemi told the Celtic View [Volume 57, Issue 3, page 76]: “Playing outside of England can be seen as a disadvantage to a lot of people, that it might be harder to get the call-up. If you’re playing well then I always believe you get the recognition you deserve.

“I’ve played in the England sides since the age of 15, so you’re always going to play with great players.

“Bellingham and Musiala are a few, but Karamoko is right up there with those I’ve played with.”

Tobi Oluwayemi has real belief in Celtic youngster Karamoko Dembele; as do we all

Karamoko Dembele will surely get his time. A prolonged run in the Celtic team would prove so much, but we’ve just not been able to see that.

It’s nobody’s fault. However, with his contract situation looming large, and the form of Liel Abada and James Forrest, it’s hard to see when it’ll come for him. Surely, Celtic are aware of the talent they have here. Karamoko’s name has been well known for a long time now.

Tobi Oluwayemi isn’t going to mince his words, he has no reason to whatsoever. And let’s be honest, some of the talent he’s seen and played alongside is considerable. The fees Bellingham and Musiala would set a club back now would make your eyes water.

Perhaps Oluwayemi and Karamoko Dembele will garner huge fees one day. For Celtic, Oluwayemi’s steady progress seems all in hand. Dembele’s future is far more uncertain.

It’s going to be a fascinating saga to see whether Celtic and Dembele come to an agreement any time soon. What’s for sure is that he’s very highly rated. Especially by his teammates.

From what we’ve seen of him thus far, it’s no surprise.
