Celtic and Hibernian are set to pay tribute to a player who has a legend at Hibs, and a cult hero for Celtic ahead of the meeting between the sides at Easter Road on Saturday.

The Scotsman has revealed that Pat Stanton will be a given a guard of honour by both teams to celebrate his 75th birthday.

Stanton played for Hibs for 13 years, making most 400 hundred league appearances. Towards the end of his career, he moved to Celtic. There, he helped Jock Stein’s side win the league and Scottish Cup double in 1977.

His career was sadly cut short by injury soon after that. The guard of honour will be a fitting tribute for a player who is one of the biggest heroes in Hibs’ history, but is also fondly remembered by Celtic fans.

Hopefully the game is a classic

It will be suitable if the game was a classic in Stanton’s honour, but that might not be the case. Hibs are currently in a very poor run of form. The Hoops will be hoping to add to that. They will also improve on what has been a poor league record at Easter Road in recent seasons.

It promises to be a memorable day for a player who served both Hibs and Celtic with distinction. Hopefully it ends with a Celtic win, although Stanton might want the Easter Road side to triumph.
