Celtic yesterday announced that their partnership with Konami will extend into this year’s PES release, and supporters have been seeing the funny side.

The Hoops have been a big part of the official PES series over the last two years, with the club’s iconic emblem and stadium being used in each of the last two game releases.

And that is set to continue in the awkwardly-named PES 2021 Season Update, with some fans finding the “realistic” player faces a little off.

Here’s a look at some of the reaction from the Celtic fanbase:

Fans not sure about certain player models

Okay, there is plenty of work that could be done to some of our character models. Callum McGregor for example….well…yeah.

However, in fairness to the partnership between Konami and Celtic, it’s certainly been an enjoyable one so far. Seeing Celtic Park in modern-day gaming graphics is terrific, and it certainly does bring a bit of a real-life feel to things when you play the game.

This year, PES 2021 Season Update will be priced at £24.99 for the Standard Edition. However, for the specialised Club Versions, it will cost £29.99.

The reason for the downgraded price is because the game isn’t being launched as a full game this season. It is, as it’s name suggests, a Season Update on PES 2020. This is because Konami want to focus on a new full game for the PS5 and Xbox Series X next gen consoles (Eurogamer).

Whether this year’s game manages to have an updated scan of Celtic Park remains to be seen. Given the modifications the club has made over the last few months thanks to their new deal with Adiddas, it will be interesting to see whether the new kit sponsors also make an appearance in the game.

Hopefully this year’s release loves to have some neat upgrades on last year, but the player models certainly haven’t impressed early on!

In other news, we talk about why Celtic must ensure that the season isn’t dominated by this frustrating narrative.
