Celtic have shown support for captain Scott Brown on social media, after he was subjected to some vile abuse following Sunday’s derby victory over Rangers.

On Tuesday, footage emerged of a man allegedly mocking the midfielder’s late sister. Brown’s sibling Fiona died in 2008, at the age of 21, after a battle with skin cancer.

Since the incident, the former Scotland international has come in for widespread support from the Celtic family and beyond. And the club were clearly keen to show they were behind their captain, as they took to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram on Wednesday to share a defiant post.

It’s not just the Celtic support who have backed Brown

The condemnation from the vast majority of supporters has been heartwarming to see. No matter the club you play for or the thoughts of the opposition fans, some things are more important than football.

Brown dealt with the incident terrifically well but that is no surprise given the way he conducts himself as captain of our club.

Hopefully the appropriate action is taken against the individual for the disgraceful behaviour and everyone can move on with their lives.
