The return of Karamoko Dembele to Celtic action was great to see last night after long-term injury. And he’s commemorated the occasion with a very rare Instagram post.

Karamoko has kept himself to himself on social media over the past couple of years. In fact, he has made just two posts on Instagram since July 2020 – today’s was the third.

He’s clearly delighted to be pulling on a Celtic jersey again, posting photos of his appearance against St Mirren with a simple message of ‘Alhamdoulilah!’ which means ‘praise be to God’.

Dembele has been out of action with an ankle injury sustained in a pre-season friendly against Bristol City, just when it looked like he might be a big part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans.

His peers are delighted to see him out on the pitch in senior action again with players such as Celtic prospect Bosun Lawal, Manchester City kid Josh Adam and Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala all in the comments wishing him well.

All of them have played with Karamoko at club or international level in the past and know how talented he is.

Speculation remains about Karamoko’s long-term future at Celtic with a contract apparently expiring, but Ange Postecoglou has made it clear this week that those who want to stay at the Bhoys will get opportunities.

He told a press conference this week [YouTube]: “With Karamoko he’s just been really unlucky with injuries. In pre-season I really was looking forward to working with him. People will remember he was on the end of a pretty unordinary tackle which really set him back. But he’s worked really hard to get his fitness back. He’s now available, we just haven’t found the right game to give him an opportunity, but he will get an opportunity between now and the end of the year absolutely.

“It’s also about futures and where they see their futures. I’ve said all along, for me, this football club is everything that a young player should want. Particularly at the moment – I really want to bring young players into the first-team and give them an opportunity.”

It’d be great to see him kick on in a Celtic shirt now. Remarkably he’s yet to make a single start for the Hoops, with all nine of his appearances coming from the bench.

Now is the time to see whether or not he can add an attacking spark. Postecoglou is a fan, it’s now just about ensuring that if he wants a future in Glasgow that there’s a proper pathway for him.

I still have my fingers crossed we see the best of him in green and white.
