Celtic have today announced via Twitter that they have become the first club in Scotland to hit 100k YouTube subscribers.

The Hoops remain the highest supported YouTube account in Scottish football. This comes after only starting to post regular in the last few years.

Glasgow rivals Rangers sit at 88k subscribers as it stands, with the Hoops at 101k as of today (23rd May). Celtic have seriously boosted their social media content over the last few years across the board.

The appointment of Gerry McCulloch at the start of last season as Head of Media was a shrewd move. Supporters can now see videos such as press conferences, reserve highlights, and fun features on the club’s official YouTube channel. Exclusive interviews are also sometimes made available to fans too.

There’s a massive difference in how the club operates online now. As opposed to several years ago, when Celtic didn’t have much interest in social media, much information is now passed through the online mediums consistently. Supporters have flocked to the club’s YouTube and Twitter in particular.

Celtic are also active on Instagram and Snapchat. The Facebook account has been opened for several years too. It’s fair to say the club take their online media activities seriously these days. And it’s proven in the number of views and subscribers.

Supporters can connect with the club more than ever

It’s long been overdue that Celtic bulked up their YouTube content. Rangers were more of a presence on the popular video streaming website a couple of years ago. But it’s something that the Hoops have taken seriously, and you can see the popularity it has.

Fans can now connect with their club regardless of what social media site they’re on these days. The club has done a terrific job of keeping up with the times, particularly through the increasingly entertaining Twitter page.

But whereas it was once a wasteland in terms of Celtic news, YouTube is now a genuine source of info on the club. The 100k mark isn’t to be taken lightly either. It’s a fine number of dedicated subscribers to have. Considering Rangers have been at this for longer and only have 88k, it shows the sheer pull Celtic has and the work put in. Videos continue to go up on a daily basis.

The club will likely continue to find reinvigorating and inventive ways to improve their content across all social media platforms and YouTube. It’s certainly an area the club are taking seriously, and are evidently thriving in too.
