Celtic board must listen as Gordon Strachan sends warning on Eddie Howe situation

Former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has urged the club not to let the Eddie Howe situation drag on for too long, or at least explore other managerial options in the meantime.

Strachan is a big fan of Howe and thinks he could be a success at Celtic, describing the job he did with Bournemouth as ‘fantastic’.

However, speaking on Premier Sports before last night’s Falkirk match (19:00), the former Bhoys boss was adamant that other clubs could still come in for the former Cherries man.

He said: “I’d like to think Celtic will not be putting all their eggs in the one basket. That would be very silly, I’m sure they’re speaking to other people out there because if conversations go on over two or three weeks it could change.

“Positions can change, everything could change.

“There could be other clubs involved. So I like to think, and they are clever enough, that the board will be looking at other options, and there are other good options out there as well.

“One thing’s for sure: whoever they pick will get the opportunity to work at an incredibly good club.”

Strachan knows how football works. It’s never done until it’s done. Celtic have had important reminders of that in the past.

Most recently we were gazumped by Liverpool on the deal for defender Ben Davies when it looked all but certain he’d be arriving in Glasgow.

For those who really want to see Howe at Celtic Park, a nervous few days could be ahead. The Easter weekend will have an impact, as well as any last-minute issues and negotiations from both sides.

It seems that Celtic have committed to pursuing Howe, but as Strachan notes, they either need to tie him down quickly or keep other options on the table. We can’t be left in the lurch.
