Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has stated that the club are hopeful of signing one more player in the January transfer window.
The 57-year-old has once again been busy in the winter market, bringing three new additions in to join his strong Celtic squad.
Yuki Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston were the first two players to arrive nice and early after being announced before the window opening in November.
The duo were soon followed by the next signing at the end of December, with Tomoki Iwata arriving from Postecoglou’s former club Yokohama F Marinos.
With three signings in the door before the market had even opened, it was an extremely productive start to the New Year.
The January transfer market can be notoriously tough to navigate, with some club’s not keen on losing players ahead of the second half of the campaign.
However, the Hoops have remained in the hunt for more signings, with reports indicating that the club are chasing a new striker.
Players such as Cho Gue-sung have been heavily linked, but the pursuit of a new option in the number nine position goes on halfway through the month of January.
Of course, there is no rush for the Bhoys to get business over the line, with the recruitment team assessing options and waiting for the right player to come up.
Speaking in the aftermath of Saturday’s semi-final Viaplay Cup success, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou delivered his latest update on the Hoops transfer business.
The former Socceroos boss insists he is hopeful the club will sign one more player in January, and he continued to send the message that he is open to letting players go if a new opportunity arises.
He said [Sun Sport]: “We need to strengthen further; we need to keep getting stronger.
“None of the three boys we’ve signed played on Saturday, but they’re going to add to us, and hopefully, we’re going to get another one in the door before the end of the window.
“We worked hard at the squad this year. Last year we had a core of players who had delivered, but I just felt we needed a stronger squad to be able to tackle what we need to tackle at this club, trying to win three domestic trophies and being in the Champions League.
“There’s always the possibility guys might move on for whatever reason. It’s not about me pushing anyone out the door, everyone has decisions to make.
“If something comes on the table one of them feels strongly about, we’ll discuss it, but right now, I’m more about bringing in than letting them go.”
Striker likely to be on Ange Postecoglou’s transfer wishlist.
With continued speculation surrounding the potential exit of Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis, you would imagine that position is one that is on Ange Postecoglou’s transfer wishlist.
The Bhoys appear to have been chasing Cho Gue-sung in recent weeks and now may be eyeing up other options, with reports in his homeland suggesting the frontman could remain in South Korea until the summer.
Of course, there is still the chance that Giakoumakis could remain at Parkhead should the right offer for the club or player not arrive in the January window.
However, for Celtic supporters, it is starting to feel more likely that we have seen the Greek international score his last goal for the club.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the rest of the transfer window pans out for the Hoops, with plenty of movement still likely to take place.
Postecoglou has admitted he is keen to see one more player arrive, so we will have to wait and see how that develops in the coming weeks.
