Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has demanded that his players start taking their chances in matches.
Following two consecutive defeats, to FC Midtjylland and Hearts, supporters have been left scratching their heads. In both games, Celtic had ample opportunities to put the result beyond doubt.
However, owing to our own profligacy, or contentious refereeing, it hasn’t clicked yet for the Hoops. Now, Postecoglou is determined to see a more ruthless side to his Bhoys squad.
Ahead of our meeting with FK Jablonec, Postecoglou said [Celtic FC]:
“I think in all of the games we’ve played so far, there have been moments in games where we haven’t capitalised on our dominance.
“We’ve allowed the opposition to capitalise on their few moments. We had our moments at the weekend where we could have played a little bit more intelligently in the final third and taken our opportunities.
“It’s important to have that belief that the process will get you the results rather than getting too anxious about it.”
Despite creating 15 chances from open play [WhoScored?], the Bhoys were just unable to put Hearts away at the weekend. You get the feeling Postecoglou will put this right soon, and promising signs are there. It’s just not translating into results yet.
Ange Postecoglou confident ahead of Celtic meeting with Jablonec
The Celtic boss made it clear that what the mission was against our Europa League qualification opponents on Thursday: a win, and nothing less.
He said [Celtic FC]:
“We know what we need to do. We need to go away from home, put in a strong performance and get a result to take back to Celtic Park.
“The challenge is the same – we’re disappointed to have exited from the Champions League but we’ve still got a chance at European football and we’re really keen to grab that.”
Postecoglou will be joined by Joe Hart, who signed for Celtic earlier today. The former Manchester City keeper shared a picture on Instagram, with the Bhoys social media following suit:
With vital reinforcements in goal, and Kyogo Furuhashi surely set to make his first start for Celtic, we can get more of a flavour of how Postecoglou wants his side to play.
To put it bluntly, the Bhoys just haven’t been clinical enough in front of goal. Thursday is a big chance to put that right.
