Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has been telling Australian radio station SEN all about the Glasgow derby after bossing Rangers at Parkhead.
Postecoglou last night took charge of his second derby and his first at Celtic Park. The 3-0 mauling of Rangers secured a landmark win for the Celtic boss, who has now taken the Hoops to the top of the Premiership by a single point.
The hammering comes after Celtic showed signs of closing the gap to Rangers despite our 1-0 Ibrox defeat back in August. It leaves all of the pressure on our rivals and their manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

And almost immediately after the statement win, Ange was on Melbourne radio station SEN as he brilliantly described the nature of the Glasgow derby:
“Port Adelaide [versus] Adelaide Crows 1000 times more, mate.
“It’s pretty intense. It’s because it’s generational, it’s passed on from great-grandparents to their kids, to their kids, to their kids. It’s just entrenched in society here, they’re pretty passionate about this football club, it’s more than just a football club to be fair to them. It’s part of their life. When you invest generationally.
“It means a hell of a lot. When you’ve got your greatest rivals in a game like today knowing the consequences, our job is to try and send them home happy and give them something to bounce into work with feeling good about things.”
Ange Postecoglou doing Australia proud as his Celtic revolution continues
Postcoglou, as we all know, is Australia’s biggest managerial export. Many view him back home as the key to unlocking further opportunities for Australian coaches in Europe. After all, if Ange was to fail here, it wouldn’t reflect well on Oz however unfair that is.
In that sense then, he’s carrying a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Perhaps more than should be the case for any football manager. However, with that, he’s absolutely thrived.
It isn’t spoken about enough just how far behind Rangers we were supposed to be in the summer. You even had some believing that this year was just about getting closer, not about pushing for the title. Whilst that was never going to be the case or indeed the mentality at this football club, it was certainly an idea that was getting traction.

Not that Ange didn’t have a major job on his hands in the summer. He had to oversee a total rebuild that has, to this day, led to 16 signings coming into the club [Transfermarkt]. Key figures have also departed such as Kristoffer Ajer, Ryan Christie, and Odsonne Edouard respectively.
Yet here we are and Ange has managed to integrate them into a potential title-winning squad within months. It’s unreal how little time the manager has needed to get this side challenging. And the fact it’s a squad that’s nowhere near its full potential yet is even more immense.
Celtic fans simply can’t wait for Sunday’s game at Motherwell as we look to extend our lead at the top of the Premiership. And the truth is, it’s all thanks to Ange.
