Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou's brilliant deadpan response to question about rivals live on radio
Ange Postecoglou wasn’t up for entertaining the notion that Celtic had to win last night because Rangers were victorious against St Johnstone at Ibrox.
Postecoglou had just witnessed his ten-man Bhoys side score a last-second winner in the Scottish Premiership.
After the match, BBC Sportsound were keen on pushing the title race narrative, asking “The three points, obviously it’s important to keep the pressure on Rangers as well?”
Ange was deadpan with his response, telling the broadcaster: “Just important to get three points, not really worried about anyone else.”
There’s nothing inherently wrong with the question here. The media are always going to look for angles around the title race, especially on a night that Rangers were playing at Ibrox. That’s just how it goes.
However, Postecoglou’s matter of fact response is pretty funny when you hear the delivery. He wasn’t amused in the slightest.
The Celtic boss has been wholly consistent on this matter. He isn’t buying into the title hype at all, especially in October, November and December. He has no interest in giving a quote that is spun out of control.
As supporters, obviously we can recognise the importance of last night’s Anthony Ralston goal. In the context of our season, it could be absolutely massive.
Try getting Postecoglou to admit that on national radio though and you’ll get a stern answer!
