Ange Postecoglou didn’t suffer fools gladly in his debut season as Celtic manager, often delighting supporters with robust and entertaining replies if he wasn’t a big fan of questions from the media.

It hasn’t taken him long this season either with an amusing response to a rather obvious question regarding better preparedness for the new season due to living in Scotland for a year and becoming more familiar with opponents and ‘the landscape’ here.

The Celtic boss didn’t miss, stating [YouTube]: “Yeah, considering everyone didn’t think I knew anything at the start of last year, I think I’m in a better place, mate. I’m as well prepared as I always am.”

The line of questioning didn’t come from ill intent, but it was still funny to see Postecoglou give such a short, curt response, reminding everyone of what he was up against this time last year.

I’m actually intrigued to see how the Celtic boss handles journalists over the coming season. With more expectations and loftier ambitions, the questions could become more probing.

With a tough Champions League campaign ahead too, no doubt there’ll be a few wild narratives over the piece that need tackling.

Don’t get me wrong, the questioning of methods and criticism when it’s due is welcome and needed regardless of who the Celtic manager is. Postecoglou doesn’t shirk responsibility.

The problem is, on occasion, the criticism isn’t due and we end up with situations where it feels like specific enquiries are being made in bad faith. It’s in those moments that Postecoglou is quick to set the record straight.

That didn’t really feel like the case today, but the Bhoys manager is reminding everyone he can shut down a question just as efficiently as before.

He has had no trouble dealing with the media so far during his time in Scotland, and I’m sure that will continue heading deeper into his second season.
