Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou's smart Lennoxtown move this week

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou gave his players two days off at Lennoxtown at the start of this week to help them get over the emotional and physical exertions of Sunday’s derby.

The Bhoys came through a tense 1-1 draw at Celtic Park, giving everything to secure a famous win that would have all but guaranteed the title.

It didn’t quite happen but the manager knows Saturday is a massive fixture, so he made a decision that best helps the team prepare for Hearts.

Speaking to Celtic TV, he explained: “Obviously, after last weekend’s game, for everyone, there was quite a bit of emotion and physical exertion on the day. So we gave the boys a couple of days off to recover and refresh them a little bit.

“We’re now back into training and looking forward to it. It’s been a challenging year but we’re in the final straight now. We have ten days together and I want to make the most of it.

“It’s a tricky one because you don’t want to think you’re just falling over the line. I think it’s important you enjoy this bit. The challenge is still before this, we haven’t accomplished what we wanted.”

Celtic have had ups and downs over the last few weeks, so Postecoglou giving them a breather before a final push sounds smart to me.

If we win on Saturday it’s all but done. But there’s also Dundee United and Motherwell to look forward to as well. Everything is in our hands and we need players at their peak to finish the job here.

A league title win would be a huge achievement in the manager’s debut season, so let’s get it done!
