Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed he wants to manage at least 1,000 games.

The Northern Irishman has achieved plenty in his career to date, not least his incredible Double Treble success as Celtic boss during his first stint.

He went the entire 2016/17 campaign unbeaten as the Hoops won their first domestic Treble since Martin O’Neill’s era in 2001.

Rodgers has also won promotion to the Premier League with Swansea City, the first Welsh side to ever achieve such a feat.

While the 52-year-old was in charge of Liverpool between 2012 and 2015, coming close to lifting the Premier League title in 2014.

Rodgers wants to manage 1,000 games

Of course, he will be targeting more trophies this season as Celtic manager, but his ultimate career goal is reaching that incredible 1,000 mark.

Rodgers was asked by BBC Sport in a wide-ranging interview: “If you could only achieve one more thing in your career, what would it be?”

He simply replied: “Reach a thousand games. No, because that was where it all started. I think when I became a manager at Watford, I went to a great event by the LMA.

“I went to one of their events many, many years ago and on the stage that night was guys that were being inducted into the 1,000 club.

“And I remember sitting there thinking: ‘Wow, they’ve done a thousand games’. And I was maybe only about 20 odd games in and I thought ‘wow’.

“You know, to be able to do 1,000 games, it’s a symbol of resilience and perseverance and people actually liking what you do.

“I’m 800 odd games now in. So I’ve still got quite a few more to go, but that would be the one career thing to be able to do.”

Rodgers wants to join an elite list of managers

Only 118 managers as of October 2025 have reached 1,000 games as a manager, with Sir Alex Ferguson top of that list 2,155.

Celtic’s most decorated boss of all time, Willie Maley, is 10th on the leaderboard, while Rodgers’ former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is 51st at present.

The newest member of the 1,000 club is Marc White of Dorking Wanderers, a club he has been in charge of since 2007.
