Celtic boss Neil Lennon has disclosed that he has no plans to sell defender Kristoffer Ajer any time soon, the Daily Record reports.
The player’s agent, Tore Pedersen, made some comments, as reported by the Scottish Sun, that the player would be leaving the Hoops at the end of the season.
However, Lennon has shot down those comments, claiming that the club will decide if and when Ajer moves on.
“I think the agent has shot himself in the foot there” Lennon said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“We have Kris tied down”
“We have Kris tied down to a long-term contract, so we’ll decide and not anyone else. There hasn’t been any interest in him that I’m aware of, certainly no one has called me about him.”
Ajer is under contract at Celtic until 2022, so it is easy to see where Lennon is coming from. If the Hoops want to sell the player they will make the decision, and will not be dictated to by the player’s agent.
Ajer has been a key player for the Hoops this season, so it makes sense that the club will want to keep him for as long as possible.
Hoops may want to discuss a new deal
Indeed, it would not be that much of a shock to see Celtic try to get the player to sign a new contract, as his partnership with Christopher Jullien has been vital to Celtic’s success this season.
It is good to see Celtic assert who has control of the situation anyway. The club is in charge, and they will decide what the future holds for the player, and the comments from his agent should be ignored.
