Ange Postecoglou gave a brief comment on Kris Ajer, Odsonne Edouard, and Tom Rogic after the Celtic trio missed the Bristol City match last night.

Celtic fans would’ve expected to see Ajer and Rogic in particular given the fact Midtjylland is only a week away. Edouard, meanwhile, suffered a knock against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

Yet when the teamsheet was put out ahead of last night’s pre-season contest, not one of the three players were a part of things. It’s becoming a massive concern that two of our top players in Rogic and Ajer have yet to play a single part of pre-season action as of yet.

And Postecoglou still left some things up in the air as he provided an update on all three.

As quoted by the National after the 0-0 draw, Ange said: “Tommy trained yesterday and had a really good session so he is looking alright.

“Odsonne still hasn’t got out on the park yet. Kris has still got some issues. So I’ll just have to wait and see how they go in the next few days.”

So much talk since last night has been about the injuries picked up to several key players. However, it’s almost forced us to take our eye off the fact that we already had some big concerns heading into last night.

Our number one centre-back han’t played a game of football since early June. Edouard, meanwhile, doesn’t feel any closer to making Midtjylland than he did on Saturday.

Not to mention the fact that Rogic, our second-choice number 10, also hasn’t played a single minute of action. These are all big problems, and you have to wonder how we’re going to line up on Tuesday night at this rate.

At best, Celtic are going to have an XI with several who have barely featured in pre-season. It’s not the start to his Celtic career that Postecoglou would’ve been hoping for.

The Hoops have one final warm-up match against Preston North End at Parkhead on Saturday. In an ideal world, our strongest players would be missing that one given its close proximity to the UCL qualifying match.

But if there’s any chance to get more minutes into the legs of Ajer, Rogic, or Edouard – it simply has to be taken at this rate.
