Celtic boss Neil Lennon made a brilliant comment about Hoops midfielder Callum McGregor on the club’s YouTube channel.
The Hoops boss was asked about McGregor returning to the side for Wednesday night’s game against Hearts after being rested for the Scottish Cup game against Clyde.
Lennon’s response was priceless.
“He’ll be fresh”
“It was a bonus to give him a break because he’s played so much football, so he’ll be fresh for tomorrow. As fresh as you can possibly get after playing 497 games a season already” the Hoops boss said.
Lennon’s comments aren’t to be taken seriously. He was, of course, joking about the number of games McGregor has played this season.
However, it can’t be denied that McGregor has played a lot of football this season for both club and country. So far this season, he has played 48 games for both Scotland and Celtic.

That number will only increase in the weeks and months to come, unless the player suffers an injury.
Getting better as season goes on
It is testament to McGregor’s qualities as a player though that he seems to be getting better as the season goes on, despite the high number of games he has played.
In his last six games for the club McGregor has scored three goals, that is not the form of a player who is struggling to deal with playing almost 50 games already this season.

There is no doubt that McGregor will return to the Celtic side for the game against Hearts. He is just too important to be rested once more, like he was against Clyde.
The fact that McGregor has been selected so often for both Celtic and Scotland shows just how important he is as a player to both club and country.
That is a situation that doesn’t look to be changing anytime soon.
