Celtic boss Neil Lennon feels that there is too much ‘gloom’ affecting modern day football, especially when a team loses a game.

The Hoops boss was quick to point out that he feels that this doesn’t impact Celtic, but all of modern football.

“After a defeat there is a bit of gloom malingering around the place” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“Not here, but in general. It’s probably a modern day phenomenon and you are only as good as your next game” Lennon said.

Lennon’s comments seem to indicate that he is not happy with the reaction that seems to follow when a team doesn’t win a game.

However, it has always been like that in football, although the introduction of social media hasn’t helped on that front.

There is always pressure to win your next game though, that can’t be denied. The Celtic manager will know that better than anybody.

Panic sets in should team not win a game

The position of Celtic manager is probably one of the highest profiled in British football, and should you not win a game, then panic starts to set in amongst some supporters.

Unfortunately, as the Hoops battle Rangers in what looks set to be a very close title race, the results will dictate the mood of the club, and especially the manager’s future.

Neil Lennon has done excellently at Celtic this season. The Hoops are in the last 32 of the Europa League and have won the Betfred Cup.

However, should nine in a row not be clinched, then Neil Lennon will find himself under pressure. That is the way of modern football, and the Hoops boss might not like it, but it is just the way it is.
