Celtic boss Neil Lennon has been signing the praises of Hoops defender Nir Bitton. Bitton may have started his career as a midfielder, and he has player there on many occasions for the Hoops.
But for now he is a centre-back, there is where he has played for the club this season so far. Lennon trusted the player in that position to start him against Rangers, and he was delighted with the performance that he put in at Ibrox.
He has been particularly pleased with one aspect of his game, the ‘maturity’ that he has shown for the Hoops.
“He’s been outstanding”
“I was delighted with the way he was playing, he’s been outstanding” Lennon said, as reported by the Daily Record.
“Sometimes he can be a bit too composed! But from what I’ve seen of him lately, he’s been absolutely superb. There’s a maturity about him as well that has pleased me.”
Stood up to every Rangers attack
Bitton certainly turned in a mature display at Ibrox, where he stood up to every Rangers attack in the 2-0 win. Unfortunately, he did suffer a hamstring injury in that match, which will keep him out of action for a few weeks.
However, as soon as he returns to fitness, it would not be a surprise to see him return to first-team action. He is a player that Neil Lennon obviously trusts. That is why the Hoops manager had no hesitation about playing him in defence in such a big game.
Bitton’s injury will be an irritation for the player. He looked set to have a run of games in the team this season. However, having players who can play in a number of positions is always a good option for a manager. Therefore, Bitton should make many more appearances this season, once he returns to fitness.
