Ange Postecoglou gave an injury update on Cameron Carter-Vickers after Celtic’s 4-0 win over St. Mirren last night.
The American defender missed his first competitive Celtic game since the Bernabeu last night, but it is nothing serious according to the Hoops boss.
“Giakoumakis and Carter-Vickers pulled up sore from the weekend,” he told the Scottish Sun.
“At a stretch, Giako might be available for Saturday. Cam probably will be, but we’ll probably still rest him for Saturday even though it’s nothing significant.”
So don’t expect to see Carter-Vickers turning out against Greenock Morton on Saturday lunchtime.
On the face of it, there’s little need to rush him back for that game. Even if he was fully fit, there’s a good chance he’d be rested.
The news was different for Alexandro Bernabei who also missed the game last night.
Postecoglou: “I just thought I’d rest him tonight because he’s had two big games. He’ll be back in on Saturday.”
Josip Juranovic had a fine game last night but it would surely be Postecoglou’s preference to have a left-sided player at left-back for the visit of Dougie Imrie’s side.
Bernabei has had a mixed start to life in Scotland. He has shown flashes of quality and lapses in concentration.
Saturday could be another important step for him.
Perhaps a back four of – Ralston, Starfelt, Kobayashi, Bernabei – could do the trick at the weekend.
