Celtic claim overwhelming response to season ticket sales

Celtic have claimed that there has been an overwhelming response to their season ticket sales over the last 24 hours.

The Hoops yesterday announced their appeal for fans to renew for the 2021/22 season. The reaction to the release was one of sheer anger and confusion, with the club as of yet still having yet to announce our new manager.

Celtic said in their statement that they had hoped to have had the new manager in place by now. However, for those who decide to renew, a bunch of new benefits are announced including discounts and a £50 retail voucher for Celtic stores.

It wasn’t enough for many supporters. The Green Brigade have today urged their members to hold off renewing their season tickets as they look to engage with other fan organisations regarding a joint approach. But Celtic have stated that they’ve received plenty of encouragement over the last 24 hours:

In a club statement released today, Celtic said: “Following the launch of the Season Ticket renewals yesterday (Wednesday, June 26), we have been overwhelmed by the number of fans who have shown their support by renewing for the campaign ahead.

“From everyone here at the Celtic, we want to say a huge thank you for once again getting behind the team as we look to the season ahead.

“We have a real chance to start afresh, and to build towards a successful future and your support is more crucial than ever to ensure that we start this new season stronger than before. Everyone here at the Club is preparing for an exciting season ahead, and we can’t wait to start this new era together.”

Plenty Celtic supporters still need convinced to add their name to season ticket sales

It would be interesting to know the exact number surrounding the “support” Celtic have had over the last 24 hours. Unfortunately, but as expected, the club haven’t provided that information.

Even so, it doesn’t take a genius to know that plenty still aren’t convinced. Whilst there will always be an element who will consistently renew due to their emotional attachment with the club, others want to see signs of progress.

With many fans underwhelmed by the season ticket offerings yesterday, it’s clear the club has a job on its hands this summer. Not just to rebuild the club, but to try and convince those clearly undecided that this season is worth investing in.

The best way the club can do that is to make a statement of intent in the summer transfer window. When Eddie Howe is appointed, and it’s looking a lot more like when than if, he needs to be backed heavily and immediately. The season ticket renewal deadline is on June 25th. That gives the club plenty time to get their house in order and give fans a glimpse of what we may look like next season.

Let’s also not kid ourselves. When Howe is in the door with the scarf over his head and talking about rebuilding this football club, another swathe of fans will be convinced to renew. His appointment alone will bring in numbers.

But even if Celtic have had a promising response since yesterday, there’s still much work to be done. A large chunk of the fanbase are holding off, and regardless of the positive messages from the club, they can’t hide from that.

In other news, this Celtic starlet is already at a Parkhead crossroads after signing a new contract two months ago.
