An exciting seven days for Celtic fans is about to get underway

A massive platform for Celtic colts to thrive in

It’s worth bearing in mind that there will be no promotion or relegation for the colts sides in the Lowland league. Should either side manage to win the title, they wouldn’t then be given a chance to secure League Two football.

This is mainly just an opportunity for some of the club’s best youngsters to get minutes in a more physical environment. Too often in recent years have we seen talents fail to bridge the gap between youth team and first team.

We’ve had many products who have been a class apart in the development squad. However, they haven’t been given opportunities at first-team level because they remain so far behind. Players such as Jack Aitchison, Liam Henderson, and Calvin Miller all come to mind.

Inserting “B” teams into lower leagues is a blueprint that’s been carried out by clubs in Spain, Italy, and Germany to name a few. The likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Juventus all have second sides competing in lower divisions.

This has helped massively with their youth integration. It can only be hoped that this will have a similar affect on Celtic. Granted, whether one year in the league will be enough to realise that ambition remains to be seen.

But today we’ve been given the fixtures. Fingers crossed our youngsters can make the most of it.
