Neil Lennon’s Celtic will start their defence of the Scottish Cup on January 18th 2020 away to Partick Thistle, with a 17:30 Saturday kick-off time confirmed by the club on Tuesday.

The Hoops have enjoyed enormous success in the competition over the last few years and lifting the trophy will again be a massive aim.

Our last match in the competition was a memorable final against Hearts in May, during which Odsonne Edouard catapulted himself to even greater hero status with two goals in a 2-1 victory.

Drawing Thistle is, on paper, very favourable to the cup holders. We’ve already played them this season, thumping them in the Scottish League Cup by a 5-0 margin.

A trip to Firhill could prove to be a little bit more difficult than a match at Celtic Park, but their form this season is not good at all. They’re currently rock bottom of the Scottish Championship, with just three wins from 15.

Saturday night lights

An evening kick-off on a Saturday will be a rare treat for fans making their way across the city and should generate a good atmosphere.

We’re a support that, far too often, has to endure epic trips across the country for lunchtime kick-offs, sucking much of the fun out of the entire process.

The fixture should give supporters the chance to have a proper build-up in surrounding establishments and enjoy the return of Celtic for our first game back after the winter break.

It could be a match we head into with enormous momentum.

If things go our way over the next month we could have a trophy in the bag and have opened up a gap at the top of the table before the mid-season interval.

A return at Firhill on a Saturday night seems like the perfect we to start off the second half of the season.

As reported by The Scotsman, the match will be shown live on Premier Sports for anyone unable to secure a ticket.
