Celtic could have bumper away support at Tynecastle for Hearts Scottish Cup clash; SFA rules

Celtic fans may once again get a full away allocation in Hearts’ Roseburn Stand at Tynecastle for the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Ange Postecoglou’s Bhoys have been given a tough encounter on the road for a chance to make it into another Hampden semi-final but could be roared on by a large support.

SFA Scottish Cup rule 36 says “the visiting club shall have the right to claim admissions up to 20% of the spectator capacity of the ground” where a tie is played. [SFA Handbook pdf]

The Roseburn Stand can hold as many as 3,300 people, but Celtic’s away allocation has been reduced to under 1,300 over the last couple of years due to a Hearts season ticket initiative.

Obviously, there are potential complications such as both clubs agreeing, Police Scotland permission and other factors, but theoretically, we should see the usual small allocation for league encounters kicked to the curb.

It should make the match a very feisty cup encounter with an even better atmosphere than usual.

Celtic’s trip to Tynecastle likely to be a Saturday fixture

Another consideration is that the Scotland rugby side are at home to Ireland in the Six Nations at Murrayfield on Sunday March 12th, meaning the Celtic match is more likely to be played on Saturday March 11th.

With Viaplay Sports’ TV slots in previous rounds, we might even get a 5:30pm Saturday evening kick-off at Tynecastle, with thousands of Celtic fans in attendance.
