Celtic are back in pre-season next Monday with many of the first-team squad arriving after 6 weeks off, and they could be arriving to several new signings.

We all know by now about Ange Postecoglou’s urge to bring players in before the beginning of pre-season [The Scotsman]. And whilst it likely won’t be a case that all of our transfer work is finalised by then, some real progress could be about to be made.

Indeed, we could bring as many as 3 new players to Celtic Park before next week going by the latest transfer updates in recent days.

Firstly, the lengthy Jota saga looks like coming to an end soon with Record in Portugal claiming that a deal is set to be concluded by the end of this week. That would allow Ange to call the winger back for pre-season training as soon as Monday after a long holiday.

Getting that one over the line would be a huge boost to the Celtic supporters given Cameron Carter-Vickers has already signed on the dotted line for the long-term. Getting Jota on board before pre-season has to be a big target for the club.

Secondly, it looks as though we’re about to crank up our quality in the goalkeeping department with the dependable Benjamin Siegrist. The Scottish Sun has reported that he’s been spotted in the Blythswood Square Hotel in Glasgow – a popular venue for Celtic when bringing in new signings.

Celtic appear to be closing in on several big recruits

Siegrist being in the city suggests this one is imminent. If he hasn’t signed by the end of this week it would be quite a big surprise. Clearly, he’s the man Celtic their eye on to replace Vasilis Barkas, and they’ll want him linked up with the squad for pre-season.

And finally, great news coming out of Argentina today that Celtic have agreed a verbal deal with Lanus for Alexandro Bernabei [CL Merlo]. He looks to have played his last game for the club and the Hoops won’t be looking to hang about in bringing him over to Glasgow.

Granted, timelines regarding when he’ll touch down in Scotland aren’t quite clear as of yet. But with pre-season just around the corner you have to imagine Celtic will be determined to move swiftly here.

If we manage to get these 3 deals done then that would be a fantastic start to the club’s transfer work. Combined with CCV, you would have to credit both Ange and the baord for working so swiftly. It would reflect our January business last season when we managed to wrap up all of our inward activity on the 22nd. Ange won’t be wanting to wait until the closing days of the window this summer either.

Of course, not everything goes to plan and the Celtic supporters will understand that deals can change. But getting these 3 in the door would be a real sign of transfer intent. It would also highlight just how big an attraction we are this season with UCL football too.

It already looked like being a busy week at Celtic, and the early news certainly makes it seem as though some signings are around the corner.
