Celtic have released a statement on fixture scheduling and ticketing issues today, promising fans that they are taking steps in the best interests of attending supporters.

Neil Lennon’s play the upcoming League Cup semi-final against Hibernian at 5:30pm on a Saturday, an issue apparently raised by fan groups as unhelpful for some people trying to travel to and from the game.

With a noon kick-off up in Dingwall against Ross County also on the horizon, there remains issues for away supporters hoping to take in Celtic matches across the country.

The club said: “The issue of match scheduling has always been a complex matter. There are a number of parties involved in the scheduling of matches, including the SPFL, broadcast media partners and Police Scotland, all of whom have their own considerations.

“Celtic engages in regular discussion with the SPFL concerning match scheduling and will always work in the best interests of our supporters.

“We fully understand and appreciate the travel difficulties which can be caused by matches of this nature and we will continue to make the views of the Club known and work to ensure that consideration is given to these important issues.”

Pittodrie update

The club have also moved to reassure fans that in the wake of Aberdeen reducing the club’s allocation for matches at Pittodrie, fans’ points record for away matches won’t be negatively affected by the fixture if they can’t make it.

Describing the Dons’ decision as “extremely disappointing”, the Hoops say the decision was completely out of their control.

While obviously frustrating for supporters, it is at least good news that those missing out won’t be further impacted by the way the club allocate tickets.
