Celtic man Dedryck Boyata could be sweating after Hertha Berlin agree manager departure

Dedryck Boyata could be made to sweat regarding his move to Hertha Berlin this summer.

The German outfit have agreed to depart with their manager Pal Dardai at the end of the season. This comes after Boyata had reportedly been holding talks with the Bundesliga side about a summer switch.

Interestingly, Dardai has lost five games in a row. But, despite his departure, he will return as the academy coach next season. There hasn’t been a confirmed appointment for the new campaign as of yet.

So, in theory, surely then a decision will have to be made by a new manager on Boyata. Talks could very easily stall in this regard, but there have been no confirmed developments as of yet.

The Belgian could reportedly earn £40,000-per-week in Germany, according to the Sun. If Berlin does decide to go ahead with the move, not many could blame Boyata for likely bumping up his salary significantly.

If it’s not Berlin then it’s likely someone else

What is important, however, is to recognise that Boyata is out of contract at the end of the season. If it isn’t Berlin that seals a deal for him, it could be anyone else.

If Boyata wanted to stay at Parkhead, it’s difficult to shake the thought that he would’ve already signed up. His non-committal attitude to Celtic regarding his contract is also likely to put some fans off keeping him anyway.

Considering the progress he’s made at Celtic and his value to the Belgian national team, he should be a wanted man this summer. Regardless of whether the Berlin deal goes through or not, you have to imagine he’ll be for the off. But, despite that, it’s still an interesting development regardless.

Fortunately, Celtic look like they have a solid centre-back partnership in place for next season. The combination of Jozo Simunovic and Kristoffer Ajer looks a successful one. But replacements will still be needed for Boyata and Filip Benkovic, should both men fail to return next term.

Boyata and Berlin perhaps won’t be the match we all thought they were destined to be. But if it isn’t the Germans, it’s still highly unlikely to be Celtic that have him next year.
