Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has discussed his future at the Scottish champions, insisting he isn’t thinking about a move anywhere else, The Scottish Sun report.

There’s been a bit of speculation about teams being interested in signing the Norwegian talent over the last few months.

Website 90min.com had an exclusive report in November claiming that English Premier League side Leicester City were hopeful of landing him for a fee under £20m.

However, Ajer is keen to put all that to one side and simply focus on his next six months at the club, also addressing the possibility of signing a new contract.

The defender is letting his agent and club decide all that, perfectly happy with the two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: “I’m really happy now, I’ve got two and a half years at Celtic and I’m happy with it.

“I love playing for Celtic. All talk of contracts is between my agent and the club and I’m just concentrated on day-to-day work and trying to be the best footballer I can.

“I’m not fussed about speculation. I’m happy here and I want me and the club to have a fantastic next six months.

“This is a great place to be. I really wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

Celtic should capitalise on happiness

Although Ajer has made it clear he wants to leave any contract talks strictly up to his agent, the club should look to tie down the talent beyond his current 2022 deal.

We’ve done an excellent job securing our key assets at the club in recent years, or at least ensuring we maximise incoming fees for our best players.

Ajer has his faults, but he’s been a regular in Neil Lennon’s team and securing his long-term future should be one of our contract priorities over the next few months.

He’s going to improve and develop further. It’s easy to forget he is still just 21.

Most importantly, he’s excited to be at Celtic.
