Celtic defender Moritz Bauer is an injury doubt ahead of the upcoming UEFA Europa League clash at home to Cluj, The Daily Record report.
Bauer made his second start for the club against Hibernian at Easter Road yesterday, delighting fans by assisting the Hoops’ only goal of the game.
Unfortunately for the Austrian, he’s received a knock on his ankle. It happened during the incident that could have led to a Celtic penalty, with Daryl Horgan catching the full-back in the Hibs box.
Neil Lennon gave an update post-match.
As quoted by The Daily Record, he said: “We’ll see how Moritz is. On the penalty incident he’s hurt his ankle, which doesn’t surprise me. It’s the same one he hurt last week so we’ll have to assess him.”
It’s a blow to the manager’s options ahead of what could be a revenge thriller against the Romanians at Celtic Park.
What will the defensive line look like now?
The back four will likely be similar to Saturday’s, with Boli Bolingoli, Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer all getting the nod.
Emerging star Jeremie Frimpong is unable to feature as he has not been registered in the squad. He’s not been at Celtic Park long enough to be included on the ‘B’ list either.
If Bauer misses the match then, Hatem Abd Elhamed is both likely and capable of slotting in. He was named on the bench yesterday but did not get any minutes.
The talent in that defensive line will need to be at the top of their game. Cluj showed with their four goals last time they are more than capable of causing problems.
Hopefully this time they are returning to Romania far less happy with their night’s work.
