Leo Mazis, who signed for Celtic back in February 2018, has joined Italian club Triestina, who officially announced his signature today on their website.
The Serie C have snapped up the 19-year-old after a short trial at the club, signing him to a contract that lasts until the summer of 2021, with the option of a further two-year extension.
They describe the player as “a very flexible midfielder with offensive characteristics”.
Celtic announced his signature just over two years ago after he performed well in a two-week 2017 trial at the club.
The young Australian joined from Belconnen United, who play in Canberra’s National Premier League.
He was delighted to make the switch to Celtic at the time, telling the official website: “It was unbelievable when I got the call to say Celtic were offering me a contract. It’s always been my dream to play football at the highest level and Celtic are a massive club so I’m over the moon with this opportunity.”
It seems though that he hasn’t been able to push on in the club’s development and reserves squad. He was named on the bench for Challenge Cup matches earlier this season but did not get any minutes (Transfermarkt).
The attacking midfielder’s last appearance for the young team appears to have come in October against Dunfermline, which is the last time he was mentioned by the official Academy Twitter account.
Hopefully he finds more success in Italy and we wish him well in his future career on the continent.
