Celtic have appealed the red card that Hyunjun Yang received in their 2-0 defeat to Heart of Midlothian in the capital last weekend.
The South Korean winger was ordered off after initially being booked for a high challenge on Alex Cochrane; however, this was upgraded from a yellow to a dismissal following an intervention from VAR.
Of course, Yang wasn’t the only player to feel hard done by last Sunday, as Tomoki Iwata was harshly penalised for a handball just before the interval, which led to the hosts opening the scoring through Jorge Grant.
Brendan Rodgers was incensed at full-time and criticised the officiating on display, and could potentially be subject to retrospective action from the SFA Rule No72 Article 96.1 [The Scottish Sun].
Despite rarely taking issue with referees during his two spells in Scotland, the Irishman clearly felt that there was a case to answer for the authorities amid some questionable outcomes at Tynecastle.
It remains to be seen where matters progress from here, though Celtic seem unlikely to back down in the latest instalment of controversy to make waves in Scottish football.
Celtic discover when they will learn Hyunjun Yang’s fate
Yesterday afternoon, Celtic released a firm statement in the wake of Yang’s sending off; meanwhile, they also cited ‘serious concerns’ about the usage of VAR during proceedings in the 2-0 defeat to Hearts.
In full, the announcement read: “Celtic Football Club can confirm that it will be appealing the red card issued to Hyunjun Yang during Sunday’s match against Hearts at Tynecastle.
“We have also written to the SFA to raise our serious concerns regarding the use of VAR and the decisions made within the match.
“As we have said before, for some time Celtic has sought to work with the footballing authorities with the aim of improving standards associated with refereeing and the use of VAR in Scotland, something which is clearly in the wider interests of everyone within the game.”
Now, further information has come to light regarding when Yang will find out whether the club’s decision to contest his dismissal has become successful.
The SFA official website Notices of Complaint have been updated, detailing that Celtic’s claim that Yang was the subject of wrongful dismissal for serious foul play will be heard today at a Fast Track Tribunal hearing.
Beyond that, there is very little information available; however, the Bhoys will be waiting on the result of their appeal with keen interest in the wake of a chaotic weekend.
Yang has come into form over the last few weeks, registering two assists in his last three Scottish Premiership matches, signifying he isn’t a player Rodgers would be keen to lose for a period of time [Transfermarkt].
