Celtic will play Rangers at Hampden in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, it was confirmed in a draw tonight.

Celtic overcame Hearts at the weekend by a 3-0 margin thanks to goals from Aaron Mooy, Kyogo Furuhashi and Cameron Carter-Vickers. Ange Postecoglou’s side beat St Mirren and Greenock Morton in previous rounds of the tournament.

Now it’s Rangers who await at the national stadium, just like they did in the Scottish League Cup final and last year’s semi-final in this competition. Another huge Hampden date has arrived. Falkirk will face Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the other semi.

Celtic and Rangers semi-final heading for Viaplay

Celtic will have confidence, of course, having just beaten them 2-1 at the same venue. However, it’s guaranteed to be another fiercely contested 90 minutes, with a stadium full of noise and colour at both ends.

The match will be played on Saturday 29th April or Sunday 30th April, with the club likely confirming the exact details over the next few days following consultation with various groups – including the TV companies. History tells us the match is more likely to be played on the Sunday.

Both semi-final matches will be broadcast on television with Viaplay having their pick of which one to show exclusively. BBC Scotland will also cover the other fixture. It seems inevitable that Viaplay will choose to broadcast another derby between Celtic and Rangers as the exclusive pick.

The game comes a week after Celtic’s last match before the Scottish Premiership split, which is at home to Motherwell on 22nd April. There will be a full seven days of build-up to another huge game.

The winners of this one will be red-hot favourites to go on and lift the trophy with both remaining clubs in the other half of the draw plying their trade in the Scottish lower leagues.

Bring it on!
