The Celtic trip to Dubai looks terrible.
You can argue about the merits of warm weather training and the impact it could have on our season.
You can argue that, technically, Celtic aren’t in breach of Covid-19 protocol because of their elite sport status.
However, in terms of how it looks, and how it feels to fans, it’s nothing short of a shambles.
Swanning off to Dubai in the middle of a global pandemic is rather absurd.
That’s even more true after today’s grim update from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. Her government have imposed more stringent lockdown rules for the remainder of January.
Frankly, professional sport in Scotland appears lucky to get away with being able to go ahead.
Pictures that emerged on social media of the team socialising on their day off ahead of training didn’t particularly go down well, but that’s not even the issue.
The trip shouldn’t have gone ahead in the first place, for me.
Celtic are trying to put a brave face on it with social media updates from the training field, but they haven’t quite resonated in an intended manner with many online supporters.
Quite why the club have decided to head around the world for a ‘change of scenery’ amid some of the darkest days of the pandemic is a mystery.
Even if technically allowed, it’s excessive and unneeded, especially with the league title drifting away.
That’s all before you take into account the myriad of other issues a trip to Dubai involves.
These fans are fuming and, in my opinion, rightly so…
