Celtic fan Billy Connolly supporting the 'wee' Berwick Rangers

Celtic die hard Billy Connolly has confessed to supporting Rangers – Berwick that is.

The Scots comedian has backed the side from borders for over 50 years, he has revealed.

Will the Hoops be looking over their shoulder as Connolly aims to go to one of Berwick’s games in the future? He has a free seat for life at Parkhead, but it will be lying empty as Connolly goes to see the ‘wee Rangers’.

Billy Connolly switching from Celtic to Rangers so soon?

Berwick Rangers have had a tough time of it of late.

They are now plying their trade in the Scottish Lowland league after being relegated from League Two.

The players needed a pick me up and it came from the Scottish legend himself, The Big Yin. Following their relegation, he sent a letter to the club.

As quoted by Planet Radio, he wrote: “Your chairman tells me that you are a bit p**d off at being in the Lowland League, and not setting the heather on fire there either.

“I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for you, ever since you beat the Gers in the Scottish Cup. You pulled your socks up and got on with it then, and could do it again nae bother.

“I’ll be watching your results with great interest, and cheering for you. The next time I’m in Scotland I’ll come and see you. Until then, power to you, Billy xxx”

Big Yin thanked for his support

Although there was a slight Celtic flavour to his letter to Berwick, they are thanking Connolly for his support.

Chairman John Bell told Planet Radio: “It’s nice for somebody like Sir Billy to take an interest in a wee club like ours, it’s a wee bit of positivity.

“I think the players will appreciate having that wee note in the dressing room.”

Let’s hope the bitter cold of Berwick doesn’t stick to Connolly for longer than 90 minutes. He may think he’s seen it all with The Bhoys and back Berwick for the rest of his days.

However, 10-in-a-row is on the cards next season and Connolly will surely not want to miss that once in a lifetime opportunity.
