Celtic fan groups in talks with club about value of season ticket as renewal date looms

Celtic fan organisations are in discussions with the club about the value of the season ticket offering proposed, as the 30th June renewal date looms.

The club are currently selling season ticket renewals at full price despite the acknowledgement that the 2020/21 campaign is due to start behind closed doors.

Right now the guidance is that no refunds will be issued on the matches that go ahead without supporters.

Instead, the club have invested in a new ‘virtual season ticket’ platform that allows these fans to watch games at home via the internet, with programmes featuring top pundits and produced by the BT Sport and Premier Sports affiliated Sunset and Vine.

For season 2019/20, pro-rata refunds were offered to fans for the matches cancelled by the ongoing health crisis.

The club have said they are ‘committed to looking at ways of delivering additional value to our supporters over the course of Season 2020/21’ in official communication but have not yet given details on what that might entail.

As a result, some fan groups are seeking clarity.

The Green Brigade confirmed on Twitter yesterday that they know of supporters delaying on renewing their seats and hope to have an update next week after discussions have taken place between various fan organisations and the club.

As it stands, the renewal deadline countdown timer on the official site ticks towards the 30th June, though Celtic have been known in the past to extend deadlines if they feel it’s the best thing for fans.

On the face of things next season is absolutely not one to miss with Neil Lennon’s team pushing for a record tenth title in a row.

However, there are financial realities for supporters as well as the club so it’s fair that people want to know exactly what they are getting for a full price season ticket when they might not be able attend the full schedule of matches.

Not everyone will be in a position to pay into the club what they managed last term.

Nobody is in an easy position here, especially with a lack of clarity about when fans might be allowed back in, but hopefully some assurances can be given and communicated to people wishing to renew before the deadline.
